Luke 4:1-2 describes how Jesus was “led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil.” Many have used this phrase to provide justification for the theological statement that God tempts us to refine us. David shares James 1:13-15 which states God cannot tempt anyone with evil. The true context of what occurs here is explored in Jesus’ response concerning the voice of God being able to meet the entirety of Christ’s needs. This response echoes into our situations and propels us to feast on the voice of God in the midst of temptation.
