In Philippians 4:11, Paul states that he has learned that “whatever state [he] is in, to be content”. Many have adopted this as a way to conform, adapt, and refrain from expecting or even praying for God’s promise of abundant life to be afforded to them. By looking at the entire context of Philippians 4, we see a very different message about how making our requests known to God, we can receive peace that passes understanding. This can bypass anger and hurt when contentment is impossible.
